Ford started to sell virtual cars. Well... not exactly. What happened is that Ford took the next step in product design. Instead of comissioning photographers to prepare their marketing photos, future brochures from Ford will be based on sophisticated computer models (CAD) of the cars to be produced, and not on existing physical vehicles.

É fantástico, a Ford vai passar a vender carros virtuais. Ou quase! Na realidade, o que a Ford vai fazer é substituir os fotógrafos que preparavam o material de marketing por sofisticados modelos informáticos dos futuros modelos.

Números impressionantes neste relatório publicado pela Technorati. A Blogosfera está a expandir a passos largos, e são cada vez mais aqueles que querem partilhar algo seu ou comunicar. Encontrei este relatório quando soube que vai haver um encontro luso-galaico sobre Weblogs em Outubro no Porto.

Is anyone surprised? Well, puns apart, what this article reveals is actually quite scary. The US Government is not funding any more grants on Evolutionary Biology. And why? Apparently because that contradicts the beliefs of some religious fanatics. Can you believe it? Religion is actually able to hinder science in a so-said advanced society. The anti-evolution movement, merely based on fanatism is actually gaining momentum in the US. National Geographic has pointed they are not the best in Geography. Soon not in Biology either. God save America!

Bem, mas alguém ainda se surpreende? Do que falo em particularé deste artigo. Segundo o mesmo, o Departamento de Educação dos Estados Unidos da Améric parou de atribuir fundos à investigação em biologia evolucionária. Ou seja, como as teorias de Darwin, que estão para além de contestação na comunidade científica, contradizem as religiões de alguns, não vão avançar mais nos Estudos Unidos. É o fanatismo a ganhar força numa sociedadade dita avançada.
A própria National geographic chumba-a em Geografia, cedo irá acontecer o mesmo em Biologia. Deus os salve!

Portugal vai ter pela primeira vez 3 equipas na Liga dos Campeões. O triunfo do Benfica frente ao Austria de Viena acaba por selar um feito do futebol português, juntado-se ao FC Porto e ao Sporting na luta pelo ambicionado troféu. Após a conquista de Ligas dos Campeões e Taças Uefa em anos recentes, assim como presenças em meias-finais e finais por parte dos ditos três grandes e da boa prestação da Selecção Nacional, pela primeira vez três clubes nacionais irão bater-se pelas glórias e pela fortuna que a milionária Liga coloca em disputa.

I recently stumbled on a news article that definitely gave me a fresh perspective on the Middle East conflicts. Not that it happen recently, actually it was already last year, but for my eyes this is a sign of hope. The news story dates actually from last year in Palestine. A Palestinian father that lost his son, shot by Israeli soldiers, decided to donate his son's organs which saved the life of Israeli children.

I can only imagine how hard it can be to put all the hatred away, but the path to Peace lays in such examples.

Recentemente encontrei um artigo que me fez ver com nova luz e esperança o conflito no Médio Oriente. Não é extremamente recente, data do último ano, mas é uma mostra do caminho a seguir. Um pai palestiniano, cujo filho foi morto por soldados israelitas, decidiu doar os orgãos deste, que vierem a salvar vidas de crianças israelitas.

Não deve ser fácil renegar ao ódio gerado por tanto conflito, mas o caminho para a Paz só será encontrado com mais exemplos como este.

O artigo para que aponta o título achei excelente. É outro ovo de Colombo. Desta vez fala de preocupações na criação de um produto em que se deve ponderar a usabilidade contra a lógica. O exemplo citado diz tudo: depois de comprar umas calças, um website deve sugerir camisas que fiquem bem, e não perguntar se quero mais calças. Assim como no supermercado as pipocas deviam estar ao lado dos DVDs e não do outro lado.

This article I came accross deals with a very interisting topic. In product design more than logic sometimes usability must come first, or both need to be articulated. It all comes down to how the user needs a product. I understand that DVDs are on electronics and Popcorn on the food section, that's Logic. But when I go to buy them, it also makes perfect sense to me if they are next to each other.

For a couple of weeks I have been trying to get one of my blogs right. The sidebar looked fine on Firefox, but "fell to the bottom" on Internet Explorer. Sure, I use Firefox most of the time, but 60% or more of Internet user were seeing the Blog wrong, and that's annoying.

Suddenly I decided to google for a possible solution or some help. This lead me to this Google Group. And from there I search for template and sidebar and found this great tips!

What I tried to do is reduce the sidebar width from 269px to 260px and apparently that did the trick.

If anyone can check if the sidebar on this Blog shows on top I would be most thankful.

De novo voltam os fogos a ensombrar o Verão. Como é possível? Dizem muitos... O que foi feito para prevenir, pensam poucos...

Será mão criminosa? Será o tempo quente de Verão, será a falta de àgua? Será azar, será destino?

Não será que estas condições e estas perguntas se repetem todos os anos? E todos os anos perecem àrvores, florestas, ecosistemas, e vidas humanas, apesar do sacrifício dos bombeiros?

Todos os anos é o mesmo, e o que é feito para evitar? Discutir se se deve alugar ou comprar aviões? E cada um de nós o que faz para contribuir ou ajudar, liga a televisão?

Não passará o mudar desta situação por cada um de nós? (Limpar as florestas ou matas, replantar àrvores, diminuir lixo, apoiar os bombeiros...)

Yet again forest fires rage through Northern Portugal and Galicia. Year after year we hear about the criminal natura of fires, the coincidences, the dry weather, the heat, the unclean forests, the lack of roads to access it.

And what is being done? A lot of discussion, every time more reporters on the field, and more cameras, but the same firemen suffering and battling agains the scorching flames.

Things need to change, and that change must also start with every one of us, helping to keep forest clean, or cleaning them, supporting firemen, and not only by thinking if the governement should buy helicopters or rather rent airplanes...

O mais incrível é que resulta. Uma fórmula de cobrar dívidas recorrendo à... vergonhas dos devedores. Pois é, até o estado se lembrou de o fazer, e ao que parce com resultados. 20 milhões de euros rolaram para os cofres públicos daqueles que não queriam ver os nomes na lista entretanto publicada.

Extraordinário! Uma lagosta meio cozinhada, meio ao natural, um achado! Bem, na verdade não é bem assim, trata-se antes de uma deficiência na produção de um pigmento azul, mas só em metade da lagosta. Mesmo assim muito curioso.
